Mary Dalton was born in Newfoundland, and has studied at the Universities of Toronto, Newfoundland and Liverpool. She is Professor of English in St. John’s where she teaches various poetry courses. Her poems, reviews and essays have been published in journals and anthologies in Canada, Ireland and the United States. She is the former editor of TickleAce and of the interdisciplinary scholarly journal Newfoundland Studies. She has published three volumes of poetry, The Time of Icicles, Allowing the Light and Merrybegot. A fourth collection is nearing completion. Mary has read her poems at festivals, universities and other venues throughout Canada. In the spring of 2003 she read her work throughout Ireland. Among her awards for her poetry is the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Arts and Letter Competition for Poetry in 1997 and in 2002 Merrybegot was shortlisted for the Winterset Award. Mary Dalton was nominated for the Pat Lowther Memorial Award for Poetry for 2004. |
