George
Terry Receives
Moose Jaw Honours Award 2007
A strong believer in
community George Terry has over the years contributed time and
energy to various local provincial and national organizations, among
them Moose Jaw's Senior Citizens Action Now, the Saskatchewan
Seniors' Provincial Council, the SIAST Palliser Institute Native
Advisory Council, the Knights of Columbus and the Federal
Superannuates of Canada.
National recognition for
his numerous contributions to the community has come for him with
the award of the prestigious Order of Canada and a listing in the Canadian
"Who's Who". In 2005 he received the multicultural International
Peace Prize authorized by the United Cultural Convention of Raleigh,
North Carolina. He was declared Moose Jaw's Citizen of the Year in
1994, and this well-deserved local recognition is every bit as
special to him as his many national honours.
Other awards include a
life membership with the Royal Canadian Legion, the Canada 125
medal, the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal and numerous plaques for
his work with youth in city schools.
During his lengthy
career with the Canadian military, George Terry, who is
Saskatchewan's most decorated First Nations solder, was awarded no
fewer than seven medals for bravery in the field. Highlights
of his service were peacekeeping in Egypt and a posting to NATO in
Germany.
