Frances Itani

Frances Itani, novelist, poet and short-story writer, who grew up in a small village in Quebec and at present lives in Ottawa, is a member of the Order of Canada. She has lived in many countries and in 7 Canadian provinces.

While living in Alberta, she studied with the late W.O. Mitchell and with Rudy Wiebe. She has written 11 books.

Her latest novel, Remembering the Bones, has been shortlisted for the 2008 Commonwealth Prize. Her first novel, Deafening, won a 2004 Commonwealth Prize, was chosen for CBC’s Canada Reads (English & French), was shortlisted for the 2005 IMPAC Dublin International Literary Award, won the 2007 Kingston Reads Award and was named 2004-05 College Book of the Year by Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton.
