Robert Kroetsch

Robert Kroetsch a novelist and poet, was born on a homestead in Alberta.  After attending the University of Alberta he worked in the North for six years, then attended graduate school for six years, then taught at the State University of New York in Binghamton for seventeen years, then taught until his retirement at the University of Manitoba. 

His nine novels include The Words of My Roaring, What the Crow Said, and The Studhorse Man, which received the Governor General’s Award for Fiction in 1969. His numerous books of poetry include Seed Catalogue, Collected Field Notes, and The Hornbooks of Rita K, which was nominated for the Governor General’s Award for Poetry in 2001. 

Robert Kroetsch taught at the Saskatchewan School of the Arts in Fort San in the 1970’s and he has recently taught at Sage Hill Experience in Lumsden a number of times and will teach there again this summer.  He was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2004.
