Shani Mootoo
Mootoo
Shani Mootoo was born in Ireland, grew up in Trinidad, and now lives in Canada.  Her first collection of short fiction, Out On Main Street, was published to enthusiastic reviews in 1993 and was followed by Cereus Blooms at Night in 1996. Cereus Blooms at Night has been published in fourteen countries, and was a finalist for the Giller Prize, the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize,  the BC Book Award and the Chapters/Books in Canada First Novel award, and was long listed for the Booker Prize.

Shani Mootoo is also a multimedia visual artist and video maker whose paintings and photo-based works have been exhibited internationally.  She lives in Edmonton, Alberta, where she teaches.  Shani was recently the University of Alberta writer-in-residence.
