Helen Mourre was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan and currently resides in Sovereign where she farms with her family. She obtained a B.A. in English from the University of Saskatchewan, where she also attended creative writing classes taught by Lorna Crozier and David Carpenter. Helen has had a number of her stories published in such magazines as Newest Review, Grain, Western People, Room of One’s Own, and has had several of her stories broadcast on CBC Radio. Her first collection of short stories, Landlocked, was nominated for a Saskatchewan Book Award in the First Book Category in 1998. Her second book, What’s Come Over Her, was published by Thistledown Press in the Fall of 2003. Helen is a past president of the Sage Hill Writing experience, a former board member of the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild and is presently a member of the University of Saskatchewan Senate. She has worked in the area of special education in Junior High School and has taught creative writing classes at Prairie West Regional College. She is also an organist, a cantor, and a choir member, not necessarily at the same time. |
