Saskatchewan, Canada  John Steffler has published five books of poems including Helix: New and Selected Poems, winner of the 2003 Newfoundland and Labrador Poetry Award, That Night We Were Ravenous, winner of the 1998 Atlantic Poetry Award and the 1998 Newfoundland and Labrador Poetry Award, and The Grey Islands. His novel The Afterlife of George Cartwright won the Smithbooks/Books in Canada First Novel Award and the Thomas Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award. He has recently completed a new novel based partly on the life of the painter William Berczy. He teaches English at Memorial University’s Sir Wilfred Grenfell College in Corner Brook, Newfoundland.
