Moose Jaw,
Saskatchewan, Canada Susan Stenson
Susan Stenson lives in Victoria, British Columbia with her family where she teaches creative writing and English to high school students. Since 1992 Susan has co-published and co-edited The Claremont Review, a literary journal showcasing young adult writers. She is the winner of the ARC Poetry Prize, 2004, The Rona Murray Poetry Prize 2003, and her long poem, Abstractions, was shortlisted for the CBC Literary Prize in 2004. Susan has also represented Victoria in the nationwide, week-long event Random Acts of Poetry in 2004 and 2006. Her latest work is My Mother Agrees with the Dead, 2007. In My Mother Agrees with the Dead, Stenson offers beautifully-shaped poems that show the living how to find space for the dead in their own lives. The poems in this collection are strong, honest, insightful, gentle and, at times, surprisingly funny; there is more compassion in them than in a hundred sympathy cards. This is a book of small mercies, each poem spare with love. |
